About the Piece

I made this piece with a deep sense of gratitude. Mike Carson has been one of my favorite artists for years—his ability to capture mood and intimacy in a single brushstroke is something I’ve always admired. When I reached out and asked if he’d be open to me recreating one of his portraits in LEGO, he didn’t hesitate. That simple “yes” meant a lot.

This piece was built one brick at a time, and through the process, I gained a deeper respect for the subtle details Mike works into his compositions. I especially love the glare on her sunglasses—it’s small, but it’s the kind of thing that makes a piece feel alive.

Thank you, Mike, for the permission, the inspiration, and the years of work that led me to want to build this.
